As you may or may not (but must definitely should) know, 26th May this year will be the 100th birthday of the legendary Peter Cushing. To mark the occasion the Royal Mail have produced a special and very classy 1st class stamp. It’s part of one of their Great Britons stamp sets and features Peter as Sherlock Holmes in a scene from Hammer’s Hound of the Baskervilles (1959)….

We can think of nothing more Cushingesque than to handwrite a letter to your favourite maiden aunt and post it with this attached; or if you don’t have a maiden aunt (or not one you’d call a favourite), perhaps a rather stiff letter to The Times could benefit from Peter’s visage. It’s out 16th April and costs… Actually how much does a 1st class stamp cost nowadays? Starburst is a lot like the House of Commons on this front; we don’t even know the price of a pint of milk.

Of course, if you really want to go mad for Peter this year, you can get the first day cover for £20. Best not to post that one at all. The limited edition is on finest quality linen textured paper. Oh, you know you want one.
