Judgment day arrived for spellcheckers a few weeks back, when it was announced straight from the T-800’s mouth (or Twitter in this case) that the upcoming sequel would be titled Terminator: Genisys. However, Paramount have now announced that the next 4 years will officially see three Terminator films released, giving specific dates and not-so-specific titles. The news broke during an announcement of future projects by the studio and Deadline has reported that the films are currently titled Terminator 2 and Terminator 3, and that they (along with Genisys) will indeed compromise a (kind of) standalone trilogy. The announced dates see the (can’t possibly be the officially titled) sequels, Terminator 2 landing on the 19th of May 2017 (a week before the bound-to-be-a-hit The Lego Movie 2) and Terminator 3 arriving on the 29th June 2018. Clearly Paramount has been taking lessons from Skynet when it comes to speedy product production.

Next year’s Genisys is to be directed by Thor: The Dark World’s Alan Taylor, with a script (which hopefully straightens out any wrinkles – pun intended – left by age gaps and past installments) by Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier and will be the first Terminator franchise offering to star (a live action) Arnold Schwarzenegger since 2003’s Rise of the Machines. Additionally set to appear are Game of Thrones’ Emilia Clarke, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’ Jason Clarke, former Doctor Who Matt Smith, Jack Reacher’s Jai Courtney, I Saw the Devil’s Byung-hun Lee and the ever-excellent J. K. Simmons (the definitive screen J. Jonah Jameson). So there is quite a lot of meat on the exoskeleton talent wise, but how well the film plays next summer will determine for sure just whether the future will be as bright as Paramount is aiming/hoping for. War is coming, thick and fast it seems.

Terminator: Genisys walks menacingly towards the big screen on the 1st of July 2015.
