Fans of Hugh Laurie and Stephen Fry will be excited to know that they’re getting back together again, but you won’t be able to see them. Indeed not, but you shall hear them as both are lending their distinctive vocals to an animated production of Oscar Wilde’s The Canterville Ghost.

Currently in pre-production the project has also attracted young Norman Bates himself, Freddie Highmore, as well as Imelda Staunton Vera Drake, Miranda Hart Miranda and Toby Jones The Hunger Games.

The unenviable task of adapting Oscar Wilde’s classic spectral comedy has fallen to Giles New and Keiron Self That Mitchell and Webb Look.

Kim Burdon will direct the story of Sir Simon de Canterville who has contentedly haunted his rural ancestral English, Canterville Chase, for over 300 years. Having successfully scared off every previous tenant with ease and aplomb, he faces his greatest challenge when the Otis family from America take residence.

Producers Robert Chandler and Gina Carter stated: “The animation allows us to emphasize the comedy and the epic qualities of Sir Simon’s journey. The hauntings will be magnificently visual; the humor laugh-out-loud; the love story at its center deeply moving.”

The films sales agent, Content’s Jamie Carmichael, said: “Take one bone rattling ‘Canterville Ghost,’ add a dollop of Fry, a slice of Laurie, and the result is pure, perfect, hilarious magic.”
