Try and contain your disappointment, folks. Lucasfilm has announced that due to the currently in-development STAR WARS EPISODE VII, they’re indefinitely postponing the 3D re-release of ATTACK OF THE CLONES and REVENGE OF THE SITH.

In a short statement posted on Starwars.com this evening, Lucasfilm explained the decision:

Lucasfilm has decided to postpone this fall’s scheduled release of Star Wars Episodes II and III in 3D. Given the recent development that we are moving forward with a new Star Wars trilogy, we will now focus 100 percent of our efforts on Star Wars: Episode VII in order to ensure the best possible experience for our fans. We will post further information about our 3D release plans at a later date.

Whilst not ruling out the future 3D release of everyone’s 4th and 5th favourite STAR WARS films, the lack of a proposed date, coupled with Disney’s eagerness to press on with both a new trilogy and assorted spin-off projects, means that anyone who’s been eagerly awaiting the 3D adventures of Anakin and co (Someone? Anyone? Did anybody even see THE PHANTOM MENACE in 3D?) probably shouldn’t be holding their breath.
