As well as THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 seeing a new clip debut at yesterday’s Superbowl, a pretty awesome looking new trailer, seeing Spidey’s villains unite, has surfaced. Now certain quarters are approaching THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2’s release with extreme caution for fear of character overkill *cough* SPIDER-MAN 3 *double cough* X-MEN: THE LAST STAND *cough* but, to the majority of us here at Starburst, we’ve got an excited anticipation for the return of ol’ Webhead.

First up, here’s the complete Superbowl spot:

The official synopsis for Marc Webb’s THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN follow-up reads:

We’ve always known that Spider-Man’s most important battle has been within himself: the struggle between the ordinary obligations of Peter Parker and the extraordinary responsibilities of Spider-Man. But in THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2, Peter Parker finds that a great conflict lies ahead.

It’s great to be Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield). For Peter Parker, there’s no feeling quite like swinging between skyscrapers, embracing being the hero, and spending time with Gwen (Emma Stone). But being Spider-Man comes at a price: only Spider-Man can protect his fellow New Yorkers from the formidable villains that threaten the city. With the emergence of Electro (Jamie Foxx), Peter must confront a foe far more powerful than he. And as his old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, Peter comes to realise that all of his enemies have one thing in common: OsCorp.

Complete with some new, fan-pleasing duds, Andrew Garfield returns as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy and Sally Field as Aunt May. Joining the series, we have Jamie Foxx as Max Dillon/Electro, Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborn/Green Goblin, Paul Giamatti as Aleksei Sytsevich/Rhino, Chris Cooper as Norman Osborn, Colm Feore as Donald Menken, Martin Csokas as Dr. Kafka, and Felicity Jones and BJ Novak in unconfirmed roles. Novak is long-rumoured to be playing Otto Octavius and Jones has been similarly rumoured for Felicia Hardy/Black Cat.

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 is released worldwide on 2nd May, although we UK folks get the sequel on 18th April. After that, it’s already been confirmed that we’ll be getting THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 3, THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 4 and two spin-off movies in the form of VENOM and THE SINISTER SIX.
