Entertainment Weekly has published new images from Frank Miller’s hard-boiled splatterfest sequel SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR. Jessica Alba, Mickey Rourke and Bruce Willis reprise their roles as Nancy, Marv and Hartigan, respectively, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt stars as Johnny, a fated gambler. Miller described Levitt’s role as ‘completely new and fresh’, and from the promo shots, it looks as though he’ll be giving a bloody good performance.

Nancy may still be strutting her stuff, but she’s anything but the vulnerable girl seen in the first film in 2005. ‘She’s out for blood’ states Miller, ‘She’s sick of being treated—as she puts it—‘as a piece of ass’’. Cult filmmaker Robert Rodriquez is back on co-creator duties, reprising his twisted creative vision, and, on the subject of Nancy adds ‘By the end of this, she’s the avenging angel.’

3D is often a contentious issue, and with many films being retro-fitted in post-production, it’s no wonder. The first film was a graphic novel in motion, the next best thing to reading the source material, and the sequel will really benefit from being shot in 3D.

Pop star and weird-monger, Lady Gaga, makes an appearance in what is sure to be one of the year’s most anticipated movie events. Enjoy the barbarous antics from the comfort of your local cinema in August 29th.
