The Night Stalker

As reported last Feb, the always excellent Edgar Wright has been hired by Disney to direct their new take on influential TV series KOLCHAK: THE NIGHT STALKER. It’s been quiet ever since, but today we have some movement with writer D.V. DeVincentis being brought on board to pen the screenplay. This will mark DeVincentis’ first foray into the fantasy genre (though he did have a small acting role in BLADE!), and is known predominantly for his work on critically acclaimed movies GROSSE POINT BLANK and HIGH FIDELITY.

Johnny Depp is still primed to take over from Darren McGavin in the Kolchak role and will also produce. Let’s hope he has considerably more luck resurrecting this vintage property than he did with the much-maligned DARK SHADOWS. That said, whether it’s a box office success or not, with Wright at the helm it’s guaranteed to be a fun ride.
