HUNGER GAMES sequel CATCHING FIRE got a new director recently in the form of Francis Lawrence (CONSTANTINE), and now it looks like it could be getting a new script soon too.

Oscar-winning screenwriter Michael Arndt is in talks to step in to rewrite the existing script by original scribe (and equally award laden) Simon Beaufoy. Arndt is known for his work on LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE and 2010’s pitch-perfect Pixar outing TOY STORY 3. With the screenplay for THE HUNGER GAMES amongst its weaker attributes, it’s comforting Lionsgate seem to be treating this very seriously, and getting two award-winning screenwriters on the case can’t hurt. Let’s face it, they could have got the ghastly Ehren Kruger (TRANSFORMERS: REVENGE OF THE FALLEN, etc) on this thing and it would still make a bazillion dollars.

All signs point to CATCHING FIRE being a significant improvement on this year’s franchise starter…
