Following on from the reports just a few days ago that HUNGER GAMES director Gary Ross was in some pretty tough negotiations regarding his CATCHING FIRE salary, comes the news that he won’t be returning after all. It’s not currently clear as to the circumstances which led to the parting of ways, but it would appear Lionsgate were not willing to up his pay cheque to the level Ross had requested.

Can’t say we’re at all upset by this turn of events, as it’s a pretty much the shared opinion around Starburst that Ross was one of the weakest links of the first film.

Expect stories of directors in contention for the gig to start rolling in over the next few days. With any luck Lionsgate won’t plump for somebody so pedestrian this time.

What say you guys, who would you like to see helm this one? Anybody got Kinji Fukasaku’s number? .

CATCHING FIRE is released November 22nd 2013.
