While the announcement that Jason Segel would not be returning for the recently announced Muppets sequel left many of us somewhat nervous (he did a phenomenal job shepherding them back into the zeitgeist after all), the burning question was whether that meant Walter might be left out of the picture too. Panic over! Nicholas Stoller, Segel’s co-writer of the first movie, has confirmed to Vulture that the little guy would be “heavily involved in the story”. Hopefully nobody reading this thinks we’re being facetious, we can’t be the only ones who were genuinely surprised to be won over by the new addition to Muppet canon after early skepticism (just who the hell was this impostor anyway?!).

Little is known about the sequel’s plot, which is currently being written by Stoller and THE MUPPETS director James Bobin, but it is rumoured to more in tone of the ‘madcap caper comedies’ of previous sequels THE GREAT MUPPET CAPER and MUPPETS TAKE MANHATTAN.

Disney are said to be looking at a summer 2013 release, which is surely a little over-ambitous considering how many years it took to get the Muppets back on the big screen in the first place. Hmmm, now we’re all nervous again.

More as it drops…

THE MUPPETS hits DVD/Blu-ray June 11th. Read our original review HERE.
