We first heard of this project over a year ago, but it appears things have finally started to move forward – Terry Jones is to direct fellow Pythons Terry Gilliam, John Cleese and Michael Palin in a  CGI / live action sci-fi farce called ABSOLUTELY ANYTHING. Talks to bring Eric Idle on board are continuing. Terry Jones co-developed the script with Gavin Scott over the last ten years.

Filming starts in the UK in the spring and the story revolves around a group of gods (the Pythons) who endow a human being with god-like powers to see what goes wrong. There is also a talking dog called Dennis to be voiced by Robin Williams.

From the description this sounds a lot like the HG Wells short story THE MAN WHO COULD WORK MIRACLES which was published in 1898 and filmed in 1936 with the script being co-written by Wells. This story features a man called Fotheringay who is given god-like powers and was also made into a play by BBC radio in 1959, broadcast on New Year’s Day and featuring none other than Tony Hancock as Fotheringay.

We will keep you posted as more details emerge.
