Monsters

While director Gareth Edwards beavers away of Legendary Films’ Western re-reboot of GODZILLA, a sequel to his 2010 debut MONSTERS has been slowly moving forward courtesy of UK production company Vertigo Films. Today comes the news that the movie now has its director in the form of Tom Green. Don’t panic. We’re not talking about the bovine bothering, udder-sucking funnyman, that would be weird, no, this is TV helmer Tom Green, best known for the awesome MISFITS.

Tom Green

Not that one.

We also now have a title – MONSTERS: THE DARK CONTINENT – and the briefest of plot hints, the movie said to be focusing on a teacher who has to journey into the Infected Zone to retrieve his missing brother.

Given the fact the understated nature of the first film is really what made it stand out from the crowd, it’ll be interesting to see whether the new creative team will be able to resist the urge to go ‘bigger’ with the movie. Early promise from the producers that the movie “will feature more creatures this time around” suggests we might be in for a very different tone.

We’ll have more on MONSTERS: THE DARK CONTINENT (not feeling that title at all) as it develops…
