When you think of time travel movies that you’d like to see a sequel to, 2010’s Hot Tub Time Machine probably isn’t high up on your list. That’s not to say it’s a bad film, it’s actually one of the funnier recent comedy efforts, but it didn’t exactly scream sequel. But it would appear that a potential sequel is on the cards if MGM has their way.

Although the film only had modest takings at cinemas, it has proven to be a huge seller on DVD and Blu-ray (which is probably more important now than cinema receipts) and that is enough to get a sequel green lit.

The first film saw John Cusack, Rob Corddry, Craig Robinson and Clark Duke travel back to 1986 after a dip in the hot tub of the title. Details of what the story of the sequel will entail are not known at this point (another trip back to the ’80s or possibly the ’90s?).

At the moment Corddry, Robinson and Duke are in talks to return, with Corddry co-writing with first film director Steve Pink, who is also in talks to return to the director’s chair for the sequel. At the moment Cusack is not involved with the project. There is also no word on Chevy Chase returning as the hot tub repairman, but having walked away from Community, his schedule is pretty open…
