Meryl Streep is in talks to join Jeff Bridges in Phil Noyce’s adaptation of young adult sci-fi novel THE GIVER.

The story is set in a dystopian future in which there is no sickness, war, or prejudice. Yes, that sounds utopian, but, as you’d expect, there’s a twist – the entire knowledge  of human evolution has been wiped from the race’s memory, leaving them emotionless, empty, and conformative, and is only held by one figure – the eponymous Giver. The central figure is Jonas, a young boy who is chosen to be the next Giver and learns the secrets of the world from his elderly predecessor (Mr. Bridges).

Streep, meanwhile, will bring her IRON LADY persona to the sci-fi genre as the cold, authoritarian leader of this society.

Lois Lowry’s The Giver was a successful novel in 1994, winning the Newbery Medal and being a favourite of Harvey Weinstein’s daughters, so let’s hope this success can transfer to the screen.
