Director Bryan Singer has revealed via Tweet that he’s bringing old pals Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart back to the X-franchise to reprise their roles as Professor X and Magneto respectively… despite the fact the characters will also be portrayed by Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy. Adding more confusion is the small problem of X-MEN: FIRST CLASS contradicting much of Singer’s original films and, especially, Ratner’s reprehensible X-MEN: LAST STAND, which featured young versions of Xavier & Eric played by Stewart & McKellen with creepy CGI-makeovers (pictured above; doesn’t quite hold up does it). Considering what a mess the X-movieverse was canonically (X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE also contained some, ‘wait, what?!’ moments too), it looks like the DAYS OF FUTURE PAST storyline was the perfect pick for the sequel, as it will allow parallel time-lines to be explored. Time to get the X-house in order. Wonder if there’s any way they can write out THE LAST STAND…

X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST hits cinemas July 18th 2014.
