In some bad news (at least in our opinion), Max Landis has announced that he’s no longer working on CHRONICLE 2. The first film was a massive success, largely down to Landis’ razor-sharp script, and it ended up grossing $127 million from a $12 million budget. Landis took to his Twitter account to break the news.

On his departure from the sequel, he said, “Fox had a different direction they wanted to take the series. The truth is, when you’re successful as a screenwriter, you have to just take everything in stride. That’s like more than half the job.”

Landis also revealed that he’s been off the project for a few months now, saying,CHRONICLE 2 is still probably happening, just not with my involvement as of now. It’s a bummer, but there are no real hard feelings. They hired new writers on it. I’m sure they’ll announce soon.”

Whether a sequel can work without Landis’ involvement is something we’ll have to see.

Expect to hear more on the status of CHRONICLE 2 as it becomes available.
