As a result of the success of Zack Snyder’s MAN OF STEEL, it’s already been confirmed that a sequel is on the way. Rather surprisingly, MAN OF STEEL 2 is apparently aiming for a 2014 release date. I guess, as a wiser man than me once said, ambition is critical.

Of course, with any superhero film comes the question of who will take centre stage as the ‘big bad’ of the piece. The guys over at Cosmic Book News are reporting that Lex Luthor will be given the nod to go up against the Big, Blue Boy Scout in a second MAN OF STEEL film. Considering the nods to Luthor in Snyder’s first film, the inclusion of him in a second film would not be at all surprising.

Cosmic Book News‘ source is also reporting that Snyder’s first choice for the Lex role is Mark Strong. Strong is best known for his appearances in the likes of REVOLVER, SHERLOCK HOLMES, and KICK-ASS. The actor is also no stranger to the DC Universe, having played Sinestro in the Ryan Reynolds-starring GREEN LANTERN.

Expect to hear more on this as it develops, although Warner Bros. will have to start moving production along swiftly if they do indeed choose to go with a 2014 release for MAN OF STEEL 2.
