In a recent interview with the New York Times, director Zack Snyder has been discussing his approach to rebooting Superman in his upcoming MAN OF STEEL.

In past years, the ‘Big, Blue Boy Scout’ has seen various reinventions, such as in the recent comic book series or, to a lesser extent, in SMALLVILLE. When asked about this logic, Snyder responded, “When they try to dress him up… put him in jeans and a t-shirt or a leather jacket with an S on it, I go, ‘What? Guys, it’s okay. It’s Superman. He’s the king daddy. You should all be bowing down to him.’”

He then added, “He’s a really cool mythological contradiction… he’s incredibly familiar Americana and alien, exotic, bizarroland, but beautifully woven together. All of us, in a weird way, are that same kind of contradiction – no one’s that simple.”

Snyder concluded, “I feel like my movies have always been very subversive, even when people haven’t perceived how subversive they really are. For me, what’s subversive about Superman is that it’s not subversive.”

Snyder’s vision will be seen shortly, as MAN OF STEEL opens on 14th June.

In case you missed it yesterday, the rather awesome new MAN OF STEEL trailer can be found below. Yes, it’s pants-wettingly good.
