GAME OF THRONES star Maisie Williams is in talks to join video game adaptation THE LAST OF US, it was announced at a Comic-Con panel yesterday.

The game, set twenty years after a particularly fungal form of zombie apocalypse, sees cynical old Joel (probably not the character Williams will play) escort tough teenager Ellie (almost definitely the character Williams will play) across a devastated American landscape after discovering she is immune to the virus that has wiped out humanity and so is a potential saviour of the race.

During the game’s production, Ellie was often rumoured to be based on Ellen Page – developers Naughty Dog even changed her appearance at one point after criticisms that she was too clearly based on the X-MEN actress. Now in her late twenties, Page is too old to play Ellie in the movie, but Arya Stark herself is no bad choice to take on the role.

Yes, we know what you’re thinking – “What’s the point in caring? Video game adaptations always suck!” Well, maybe THE LAST OF US could break the mould – though no director has been announced, it has Sam Raimi on board as producer and, in a very good omen, the game’s own writer, Neil Druckman. Druckman admitted the reputation of game adaptations himself at the panel – “There’s never been a really great movie made from a video game. There have been ones that we’ve enjoyed but we thought, ‘What if we could make the first great one?’ We’re gonna work our asses off .”
