Certain projects seem to have been on the go forever. Movies like Ghostbusters 3, Beverly Hills Cops 4 and Jurassic Park 4 (now finally happening and titled Jurassic World) are prime examples. Another example is Mad Max: Fury Road, the fourth film in the dystopian action series last seen in cinemas with 1985’s Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome. The Mad Max trilogy was defined by Mel Gibson in the 1980s and a further sequel has been in development hell ever since. However, the recent casting of Tom Hardy in the lead and the details that have emerged seemed to give some hope but nothing is certain. That was until the film’s official release date shot into schedules and low and behold what year is it happening? Yep, 2015!

Mad Max: Fury Road is now officially pencilled in for the 15th May 2015 (only two weeks after The Avengers: Age of Ultron, gulp). It’s hard to go into major details here though because aside from a suitably grey official image of Hardy in the film and shots of the cars being included, we have seen little. However Director George Millar is back at the helm of the film and as well as Hardy, the film stars Charlize Theron, Nicholas Hoult, Zoë Kravitz, Riley Keough, Nathan Jones and Rosie-Huntington Whiteley.

Millar has given tidbits of information over the years, including a brief synopsis, in which “Mad Max is caught up with a group of people fleeing across the Wasteland in a War Rig driven by the Imperator Furiosa. This movie is an account of the Road War that follows. It is based on the Word Burgers of the History Men and eyewitness accounts of those who survived.” Despite being filmed in 2012, the film is still driving through various stages of development. Yet this release date at least confirms that things are thundering towards release. “I just can’t get it clear in my head, Jess. He was so full of living, you know? He ran a franchise on it. Now there’s nothing.” Not anymore Max, bring on the post-apocalypse!
