And I thought the stunt casting of Mel Gibson in MACHETE KILLS was bad. Today Robert Rodriguez has one-upped himself with the news he’s cast another raving lunatic in the form of wife beating funnyman Charlie Sheen. He’ll be playing the US president apparently. Yay.

If I needed a reason to be less excited about this flick then Rodriguez just provided it. Here’s the Tweet RR threw out earlier announcing his kerrr-azy new friend!

For the record I do love Rodriguez. Not just his movies themselves, but his work ethic, his ability to apply his skills in any area of production (script, score, editing, cinematography, even craft services!), and his dedication to bucking the studio system. Loved GRINDHOUSE (including the MACHETE faux trailer), but thought he (and co-director Ethan Maniquis) really missed the mark with the character’s feature length outing. With any luck they’ll knock it out of the park with KILLS, but Gibson & Sheen’s presence really leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I can’t be the only one, right?

Sheen will join the returning trio of Danny Trejo, Michelle Rodriguez and Jessica Alba, with new additions Tony Jaa, Amber Heard, Sofia Vergara, Tom Savini rounding out the cast.

MACHETE KILLS sometime next year.
