The universally loved BIOSHOCK writer and Irrational Games co-founder Ken Levine has been hired to write the screenplay for the remake of the 1976 science fiction film LOGAN’S RUN.

Levine started his career as a screenwriter before he took the plunge into the video game industry, where he has gained notoriety working on titles like SYSTEM SHOCK 2, THIEF, and the BIOSHOCK series. He is reportedly taking a step into the film industry because LOGAN’S RUN would be a ‘passion project’ for the writer, let’s hope they can find an equally brilliant director to match.

The original film was based on the 1967 book by William F. Nolan and George Clayton Johnson, set in a dystopian society where people are willingly executed at age 21 to control the population. Those who try to escape this are labelled ‘runners’ and as you have probably already guessed, Logan 5 has a crack at it.

DRIVE director Nicolas Winding Refn, TRON: LEGACY’s Joseph Kosinski and X-MEN’s Bryan Singer are among those who have been attached in the past, but concrete information on the project has been sparse. So this news comes as a pleasant surprise for a movie that seemed doomed to fail. In the meantime, we’ll wait patiently for the BIOSHOCK INFINITE DLC.
