Of all the ‘80s properties to be rebooted for the big-screen, this is surely one of the most leftfield we’ve ever heard. What next, The Raccoons?! (Actually, that’s kind of brilliant – please, somebody, buy the rights to The Raccoons, if only so we can find out what Cyril Sneer was meant to be. Inside-out aardvark? Always confused me.Anyway, yeah, Jem and the Holograms is being reimagined for a contemporary audience by G.I. Joe Retaliation director Jon M. Chu (who was long attached to the Masters of the Universe reboot – noticing a pattern here?), horror producer Jason Blum, record mogul Scooter Braun… and you. Yes, you! In a truly unique move (and one that we can’t honestly quite comprehend just yet), the team are looking for people to actually help make the movie. Watch on for full details…

For those unfamiliar with the series, it chronicled the adventures of orphaned record producer Jerrica Benton, who inherited a one-of-a-kind hologram generator called Synergy. Naturally, Jerrica uses this tech to Hannah Montana herself an alter ego called Jem, and form a hit band.

Somehow this concept was able to be stretched out for 65 episodes. Go figure.

Check out the opening titles here…

More news on Jem and the Holograms as it drops. (Now there’s a sentence we never thought we’d type.)
