“You think it’s over? It’s never over; the games have just begun”, cue Charlie Clouser score. Come on people, you’re not shocked are you? The good folks over at Bloody Disgusting broke the story today that, though no plans are written (in blood or ink), Lionsgate wants more butchery. The Saw franchise began in 2004 with James Wan’s violent, twistedly gruesome horror film Saw. Since then a Saw film became as traditional as Halloween. Motifs established included twists, the “Hello Zep” closing score, Billy the puppet and the sequels upping the gore stakes. While losing some of the original film’s moral ideology, fans have flocked loyally to see Jigsaw’s (Tobin Bell) next sadistic game of survival play out. The “last” (seventh) film Saw 3D in 2010 marked the end of the saga but the expected open ending suggested otherwise.

Since this point Paranormal Activity has swallowed up the Halloween hit slot (this year aside) and it looks as if Lionsgate aren’t taking this lying down. Though official details are to arrive, sources state the company is active in pursuing another sequel. Back a year or so ago murmurs of a remake were heard but this new information (as light as it is) suggests otherwise. More news on this story as it pans out but one wonders just how many more ways there is to mutilate folk, death by over consumption of sequels perhaps?
