Lena Headey may be most closely associated with epic fantasy, as in the case of 300 (and its lesser prequel) and GAME OF THRONES, and having a strong presence in the sci-fi end of the spectrum, with her chilling performance as Ma-Ma in DREDD and as Sarah Connor in the eponymous chronicles. Now she’s adding Clive Barker’s unique branch of horror to her growing credentials.

Movie history is fraught with Barker adaptations. Some, like HELLRAISER, are cult genre classics, whereas others failed to hit the mark. His short story, JACQUELINE ESS: HER WILL AND TESTAMENT, is being adapted into a feature-length film, with Barker himself one of the executive producers alongside SERAPHIM’s Mark Miller and Ben Meares.

Jovanka Vuckovic will be making her feature-length directorial debut, and she’s best known for shorts such as the Guillermo del Toro-executive produced THE CAPTURED BIRD. She’ll be bringing a script co-written with Christian Francis to the screen.

The adaptation looks set to be a real collaborative affair, with both Headey and Vuckovic co-producing, telling the story of a woman who acquires the ability to transform peoples’ bodies at will. The character of Jacqueline Ess made her first appearance in Barker’s seminal BOOKS OF BLOOD anthologies.

So far, so good, and this may very well end up on the right side of the Venn diagram of Barker adaptations.
