Director Len Wiseman has dropped out of the upcoming reboot of THE MUMMY due to scheduling conflicts.

The Egyptian-themed horror was to be the UNDERWORLD creator’s next project following another recent remake, TOTAL RECALL. It’s not known what he’s got scheduled instead, but it’s possible that it’s comic book adaptation THE DARKNESS, which he’s reportedly lined up to direct.

Despite this setback, Universal are pushing ahead with the remake, which aims to be a – stop us if you’ve heard this before – darker and scarier take on the mythology. They’re hoping for a summer 2014 release, so they’d better get a move on…

Who would you like to replace Wiseman as the one in charge of bringing the Mummy back to life? Let us know in the comments.
