Sadly this isn’t the HAWK THE SLAYER reboot we’ve all dreamed of, nor is it a biopic of a sweaty rock band.

SLAYER is based on an original screenplay by new kid on the block Martin Helgeland (son of veteran screenwriter Brian) and chronicles the adventures of a doctor who discovers he’s inherited his deceased father’s position of a dragon killer. Considering the fact that there aren’t many of the buggers knocking around anymore it would seem his Poppa was pretty damn good at it.

Either way, we probably should go back and delete the word ‘original’ from that opening paragraph. Seriously, doesn’t this sound like something we’ve seen a hundred times before?

The guys that put the Bat back on the map and who will soon bring us two other giant monster movies in the form of Guillermo del Toro’s PACIFIC RIM and Gareth Edward’s GODZILLA reboot, Legendary Pictures, are behind this, so we’ll probably have to have faith that this isn’t as derivative as it sounds.

We’ll have more on this as it develops…
