Whilst initially resistant to the idea of Hollywood remaking Chan-Wook Park’s 2003 original, we can’t help but be intrigued by the path it’s taken since the early days when Steven Spielberg & Will Smith (yes, really) were sniffing around it.

Nobody can argue director Spike Lee is going to take this lightly, and Josh Brolin continues to impress since he reminded everybody he was still alive when he starred in the Coen Bros’ NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN. Rising star Elizabeth Olsen (SILENT HOUSE) then came aboard as our hero’s… companion. Now comes the news that DISTRICT 9’s Shalto Copley is in talks to play the film’s villain, a role that everybody from Christian Bale to Colin Firth have at one time been mooted.

The former comedian turned actor was great in Neil Blomkamp’s 2009 sci-fi debut, and had a good crack at filling Dwight Schultz’s shoes in Joe Carnahan’s deliciously dumb A-TEAM reboot, so I for one would be more than happy to see what he could bring to the role.

Still nothing in the way of a concrete release date for this (other than a tentative 2013 debut) so it’s still early days yet. We’ll keep you updated…
