Horror director Shimizu Takashi, known primarily for his JU-ON (aka THE GRUDGE) series of which he helmed all (even the Western remake!), is to switch gears after landing the job of bringing the classic Japanese children’s tale KIKI’S DELIVERY SERVICE to the big-screen again, but this time as a live action movie. The book was originally published in 1985, and was written by Kadono Eiko, but outside of Japan, the property is most reconisable as the beloved 1989 Studio Ghibli animated film, directed by the masterful Hayao Miyazaki.

16-year-old figure skater Koshiba Fuka has reportedly landed the lead of Kiki:

For those unfamiliar, KIKI’S DELIVERY SERVICE tells the tale of a 12-year-old wannabe witch who uses her power of flight to go into business delivering packages. Think Amazon Prime meets Quidditch.

We’ll have more news as it develops…

The original KIKI’S DELIVERY SERVICE is getting a shiny new Blu-ray + DVD re-release here in the UK on July 1st. Pre-order your copy here!
