Less than two months before its release in both the UK and the US, Kick-Ass 2 star Jim Carrey, who plays Colonel Stars and Stripes in the hotly-anticipated ‘superhero’ sequel, has announced publicly that he won’t be making himself available for promotional duties for the movie following last December’s horrifying school shootings by Adam Lanza at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut in which 26 children and 6 teachers were killed before Lanza took his own life. Carrey announced his decision to distance himself from the film on Twitter: “I did Kickass a month b4 Sandy Hook and now in all good conscience I cannot support that level of violence…I meant to say my apologies to others involve (sic) with the film. I am not ashamed of it but recent events have caused a change in my heart.”

The film also stars Aaron Johnson, Chloe Moretz and Christopher Mintz-Plasse.

KICK-ASS 2 is released in the UK and the US on August 16th.
