Ever since Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow debuted in IRON MAN 2, there’s been rabid speculation that the character would be getting her own spin-off movie at some point. That’s yet to happen, although the speculation is still there. Speaking at a recent CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER press conference, Marvel’s Kevin Feige has been addressing the topic of a Widow solo flick.

The Marvel Studios President said, “I think the idea would be great. We’ve got various outlines and ideas of where to take that. As Scarlett already said, there’s a big element that explores her backstory in an upcoming Marvel feature. The question really is, ‘When will we take her out of the ensemble and have her do her own thing?’ As you saw in CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER, as you’ll see in AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON, she’s really the key to so much of the plot development.”

So it appears that a solo Black Widow film is still very much a possibility. Then again, so is a Doctor Strange movie. Then there’s the rumours of Black Panther being introduced in his own movie, plus the regular chatter of the Hulk to get another solo film. Trying to nab a spot in Marvel’s already-packed schedule is no mean feat, which has been made infinitely harder by the confirmation that there is going to be a THOR 3, CAPTAIN AMERICA 3 and seemingly GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY 2, not to mention ANT-MAN and THE AVENGERS 3.

Before any of that, though, Johansson’s Black Widow can be next seen in CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER, which is released in the UK on 26th March.
