Warner Bros are moving forward on their long-planned JUSTICE LEAGUE movie, with an eye to shoot next year and release in the summer of 2015 according to The LA Times’ anonymous source. This will of course put it into direct competition with Marvel Studios’ yet to be titled AVENGERS sequel.

In radically different strategies, Warner Bros only has one lead in film before it unveils its own super team, with next year’s MAN OF STEEL believed to share the same universe. With THE AVENGERS 2 however, audiences will have had a staggering 10 movies and several seasons of a TV show before they return to the big-screen, thus eliminating any need whatsoever for origin stories and exposition.

The JUSTICE LEAGUE line-up is still believed to incorporate all the heavy hitters in the DCU, with Batman, Green Lantern and Wonder Woman thought to be joining Henry Cavill’s Superman. Of course this means rebooting both The Dark Knight’s and Green Lantern’s previous movie entries; a move that’s guaranteed to course confusion.

As it stands there’s no director attached, despite the Wachowskis expressing interest recently. A script exists, written by Will Beall (GANGSTER SQUAD), but it’s currently under lock and key. In case you missed it a few months back, this is what comic book legend Mark Millar had to say about the screenplay…

“A pal of mine is good friends with the new Justice League screenwriter and said his take on the team is incredible. Very real-world and not at all what you might expect. WB has a chequered history with their superhero characters. They’re great with their boy wizards, but less consistent with their DC stable. But my chum said that this could be a thing of beauty and has been in the works for a little while now, not just an avengers knock-off. Best of luck to them. The tidbits I heard sound quite dark and mature, which isn’t what I expected.”

Nor us! Whether this script will even be the one Warner Bros eventually goes for remains to be seen.

DC have a rough road ahead, but naturally we’re rooting for them to get it right. We’ll have more news as it develops…
