For months leading up to the release of Zack Snyder’s MAN OF STEEL, there was talk about the film possibly functioning as a lead-in film to a JUSTICE LEAGUE film much like IRON MAN eventually led to THE AVENGERS. With this talk came the hope that Christian Bale, who portrayed Batman in Christopher Nolan’s acclaimed DARK KNIGHT trilogy, would reprise his role as the Caped Crusader. Now, though, Bale himself has stepped forward and shot these hopes down. He told EW, “We were incredibly fortunate to get to make three. That’s enough. Let’s not get greedy. Chris always said he wanted to make it one film at a time. And we ended up sitting there looking at each other, saying ‘We’re about to make the third.’ We never really knew if we were going to get to be there, but if that was how it was going to be, this was where it should end as well.”

”I have no information, no knowledge about anything. I’ve literally not had a conversation with a living soul. I understand that they may be making a Justice League movie, that’s it. It’s a torch that should be handed from one actor to another. So I enjoy looking forward to what somebody else will come up with.”

So there you have it. Bale clearly has no interest in returning as Bruce Wayne/Batman, but that doesn’t mean that the possibility of a JUSTICE LEAGUE film is destroyed. Warner Bros. wants to make this movie badly, and they wouldn’t let the whole project depend on whether or not Bale returns.

We have little to no information on the film, but you can bet you’ll see it first here when further developments surface.
