Undeterred by previous attempts at getting the fan favourite Marvel Comics character to screen – what with the disastrous appearance in SPIDER-MAN 3 and an aborted solo flick some years back – CHRONICLE director Josh Trank is reportedly in negotiations to helm the new VENOM project.

Trank, owning those spectacle strings.

Sony Pictures are developing the solo outing, which at one time had THE HUNGER GAMES’ director Gary Ross overseeing a script by ZOMBIELAND writers Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick. The film envisioned Venom as an anti-hero rather than villain.

It’s a complicated one to nail this, especially if they’re throwing the whole ‘anti-her’ angle out of the window and starting from scratch, so if the currently very much in-demand Trank does take the job he’s got a helluva challenge ahead of him. We don’t actually see this thing getting too far development-wise to be honest, but as always we’ll be keeping you updated…
