Now this is huge news! In an exclusive, Deadline are reporting that Sony Pictures have hired CHRONICLE director Josh Trank to direct their adaptation of popular video game SHADOW OF THE COLOSSUS.
For those unfamiliar, the game sees you playing Wander, a young man on a quest to resurrect a loved one. Along the journey through the ‘Forbidden Land’ he must defeat sixteen humungous beasts, the colossi of the title (think CLASH OF THE TITANS’ Kraken, only big), through any means necessary.
(If you want to know more but are averse to going anywhere near a PlayStation, check out the little seen Adam Sandler 9/11 movie REIGN OVER ME – which is essentially a clumsy, not-so-subtle commercial for the game.)
While the structure is perfect for its original medium, it’ll be interesting to see how Sony and Trank will be able to make it play in a traditional movie narrative. Sony are currently interviewing writers to find somebody up to the task.
How this will affect Trank’s other projects – including the FANTASTIC FOUR reboot and VENOM, both for Marvel – remains to be seen.
We’ll have more as soon as it drops…
