As the STAR WARS news continues to come at us like a TIE Fighter in dogfight, Lucasfilm and Disney have now announced Josh Trank (CHRONICLE) has signed up to direct one of the stand-alone movies scheduled to be released between the main Episodes VII – IX.

Kathleen Kennedy said, “We’re thrilled to welcome Josh into the family. He is such an incredible talent and has a great imagination and sense of innovation. That makes him perfectly suited to STAR WARS, and for this new slate of movies that reach beyond the core characters and storylines of Episodes I through IX.

No other news on the subject matter of these films has been released, apart from Gareth (GODZILLA) Edwards being behind the lens on another one.

Trank is currently at work on THE FANTASTIC FOUR for 20th Century Fox.

STAR WARS: EPISODE VII opens December 15th 2015, and the first untitled  STAR WARS spin-off movie hits the following year on December 16th.
