Despite The Dark Tower sadly not working out after years in development, Stephen King it seems is back in vogue. With adaptations of The Breathing Method, Under the Dome, IT and The Ten O’clock People all on the way one of his shortest novels of the last few years is also to become a movie.

First announced back in the middle of last decade with Eli Roth attached, Cell tells the story of ‘The Pulse’ a signal heard through mobile phones which turns the receiver into a violent psychopath. John Cusack has just signed on to star in the film version which is based on a screenplay by King himself and Adam Alleca. Richard Saperstein will produce through Cargo Entertainment.

No director is attached yet but the novel is a breezy and fun read that should make a good film. Only problem is how will this be different from the similar The Signal and The Crazies which came out over the last few years?
