Director James Cameron recently took to Reddit to give an update on those multiple AVATAR sequels, not to mention discuss the rumour of Arnold Schwarzenegger taking to Pandora and to give his thoughts on the last few TERMINATOR efforts.

On where things are with the three AVATAR sequels, Cameron revealed, “The second, third and fourth films all go into production simultaneously. They’re essentially all in preproduction now, because we are designing creatures, settings, and characters that span all three films. And we should be finished with all three scripts within the next, I would say, six weeks. The biggest pressure I feel right now is cutting out things – I love to get the film down to a length that is affordable. There hasn’t been a problem finding new and wonderful things to include in the movie.”

Towards the end of last year, a rumour kept rearing its head to say that Arnold Schwarzenegger would be joining the AVATAR series as a villain. On that topic, Cameron said, “As of right now, he and I have not discussed it, and I don’t see a role as the scripts are coming together that would be appropriate for him, so I would say probably not.”

Having directed the first two TERMINATOR films, Cameron gave his thoughts on the last couple of films in the franchise, plus the cut-short SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES TV series. “I’m not a big fan of the films,”  he said. “I didn’t make the second film until I had an idea as bag as the first film, and it had to do with the moral complexity of the story, and asking the audience by the end of the film to cry for a Terminator. I don’t think that the third or fourth film lived up to that potential. SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES, I never really watched much of it, so I never gave it a chance to get hooked, like you had to do with a TV series. I’m hopeful that the new films, which are being made right now as a reboot, but still involving Arnold, will be good. From what I’ve seen from afar, it looks like they will be quite good.”

At present, the AVATAR sequels are currently in preproduction in New Zealand. The follow-ups have been penned by a mixture of Cameron, Josh Friedman, Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver. Currently, AVATAR 2 is scheduled for a December 2016 release, AVATAR 3 for December 2017, and AVATAR 4 for December 2018. Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana and Stephen Lang are all to return in some fashion.
