For those of you who have managed to check out Marc Webb’s THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2, you’ll notice a few fleeting references to Daily Bugle chief, J. Jonah Jameson. Whilst the character didn’t appear on screen, Webb has been discussing the chances of JJJ appearing in THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 3.

The director said, “I like the idea very much of him coming up in the next film. It was more easy to accept a new Spider-Man than someone who could out do J.K. Simmons in that role, he is so iconic. That’s something we’ve really talked about. Obviously I love that character because he poses such an interesting dilemma for Spider-Man. The answer is I don’t know, but I think you can expect to see him in the future.”

As touched upon by Webb, J.K. Simmons played the Bugle boss in Sam Raimi’s SPIDER-MAN trilogy, and he did a superb job. In fact, we’d go as far as to say that Simmons’ performance was arguably the highlight of Raimi’s series. Quite the tough act to follow.

The Jameson gig is definitely a pickle for Webb and Sony Pictures, with Simmons being the perfect fit for the role. Some have suggested Simmons returning for the role, but would Webb et al really want to cast an actor from Raimi’s previous films in the same role when they’re trying to establish this latest Spidey franchise as a separate entity to Raimi’s work?

Either way, it seems as it John Jonah Jameson has a very good chance of appearing when THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 3 hits on 10th June, 2016.
