In what must surely be filed under “WTF!”, that old perennial Christmas classic, It’s a Wonderful Life, is to get a sequel. Our only question is… “Why?!”

For those of you who aren’t familiar with Frank Capra’s iconic 1946 movie starring James Stewart and Donna Reed (surely there can’t be many) It’s a Wonderful Life is the story of troubled family man George Bailey who, on Christmas Eve, decides to kill himself believing that the world would be a better place had he never been born. The angel Clarence, who is in the process of earning his wings, saves George and shows him just how dire life is without him.

Now just what is the premise for the sequel, entitled It’s a Wonderful Life: The Rest of the Story? Well this time Karolyn Grimes, who played George Bailey’s daughter “Zuzu” in the original, returns as an angel to show Bailey’s despicable grandson just how better off the world would have been had he never been born.

“The storyline of the new film retains the spirit of the original – every life is important as long as you have friends,” says co-writer Bob Farnsworth.

So it’s basically the same as before then, but with the lead character being a bit of a dick and an angel showing him that the world is better off if he didn’t exist. It’s taken 68 years to come up with that?! And does the angel then persuade Bailey’s grandson to off himself?

We will just have to wait until Christmas 2015 to find out (heavy sigh).
