IRON MAN 3 has already had the second biggest US opening of all time; second only to AVENGERS ASSEMBLE. The film has then gone on to dominate the US and International box offices. Figures making their way online show just exactly how ridiculously successful Ol’ Shellhead’s third solo outing has been so far. Be warned, the below numbers may make you go a little dizzy.

* The US release of IRON MAN 3 has added $72.5 million during its second weekend, with international markets taking in $89.3 million over their third weekend.

* The film has now earned $284.9 million in North America and $664.1 million internationally, totalling a massive $949 million.

* IRON MAN 3 has already passed the total global box office of CAPTAIN AMERICA ($369 million), IRON MAN ($585 million), IRON MAN 2 ($624 million), THOR ($449 million), THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN ($752 million), SPIDER-MAN ($822 million), SPIDER-MAN 2 ($784 million) and SPIDER-MAN 3 ($891 million).

* Internationally, IRON MAN 3 has already passed the total box office of CAPTAIN AMERICA (£192 million), IRON MAN ($267 million), IRON MAN 2 ($312 million), THOR ($268 million), THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN ($490 million), SPIDER-MAN ($418 million), SPIDER-MAN 2 ($410 million), SPIDER-MAN 3 ($554 million) and THE DARK KNIGHT ($470 million).

* The biggest opening day of all time in China, Russia, Taiwan, Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand, Ukraine, Singapore, South Africa, and Vietnam.

* Biggest opening weekend of all time in Asia Pacific and Latin American regions.

* Biggest opening weekend of all time in China, Ukraine, Thailand, South Africa, Argentina, Hong Kong, Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam, Taiwan, Philippines, Malaysia, and UAE.

* Biggest Marvel opening weekend in China, Australia, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Netherlands, Finland, Hungary, Romania, New Zealand, Argentina, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Vietnam, Taiwan, Philippines, and Malaysia.

* IRON MAN 3 has surpassed the total gross of AVENGERS ASSEMBLE in China, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Indonesia, and Malaysia.

* Biggest grossing film of all time in Indonesia and Malaysia.

I’m not one to particularly harp on about figures, but IRON MAN 3 is taking some serious fat cash for Marvel and Disney right now.

Current stories have Robert Downey Jr. and Marvel in discussions for two more AVENGERS films but no IRON MAN 4. Apparently, neither party see any reason to make a fourth solo Tony Stark outing. I’m sure the above figures may change things, though.
