Marvel and Disney will be currently laughing all the way to the bank as the first IRON MAN 3 numbers are coming in: and coming in well, they are.

Since its release on Thursday, the film has grossed $195.3 million across 42 territories. To put this figure into perspective, AVENGERS ASSEMBLE opened internationally to $185.1 million last year.

Initially, early forecasts had IRON MAN 3 as getting slightly better opening figures than IRON MAN 2, although Uncle Walt couldn’t have dreamt of getting the numbers that the film has received. To add to this, IRON MAN 3 isn’t actually released in the US until Friday, 3rd May.

Disney have commented, saying, “To say we are beyond encouraged is an understatement.”

I bet it is.

With Robert Downey Jr. currently out of contract with Disney/Marvel, I’m sure they’ll be breaking the bank to bring Downey Jr. back into the fold. Well played, Downey Jr., sir.
