Production started on Disney’s adaptation of the Stephen Sondheim Broadway musical INTO THE WOODS last week. Director Rob Marshall, who’s last genre offering was the woeful PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES, is no stranger when it comes to directing musical adaptations for the big screen. He gave the world CHICAGO in 2002. Thanks for that Rob.

Anyway, an image of Meryl Streep as The Witch has been released (above), and doesn’t she just look all witchery. Joining Ms Streep in the star studded cast is Johnny Depp as The Wolf, Anna Kendrick as Cinderella, and Chris Pine as her prince, along with Emily Blunt and… erm… James Corden.

Yes James Corden and Emily Blunt play the baker and his wife, who strike out on a quest to reverse a curse that keeps them from starting a family.

INTO THE WOODS is scheduled for a Christmas 2014 release.  “Oh no it isn’t!” “Oh yes it is!”
