Luke Cage is set to get his own 13-episode series on Netflix at some point in the future as part of Marvel’s agreement with the service. Before that, though, there have been calls for a Luke Cage movie for years. Well, speaking to The Huffington Post, Idris Elba has revealed that he actually held talks for the role at one point.

When asked on whether he’d like to play a superhero, the LUTHER star revealed, “For Halloween, I wore Superman. And I was, like, ‘I don’t mind this cape being behind me.’ But, no, other than that, I don’t really have any superheroes that I like. There was talk about Luke Cage at one time — I thought Luke Cage was a pretty interesting character. They were going to do it, but I don’t know what happened…”

When it was mentioned to Elba that the Cage character is to get his own series, he simply said, “That’s right, yeah.”

Could it be possible for the actor to star as Powerman in the upcoming show? It wouldn’t be entirely out of the question, but I wouldn’t expect it to happen. Elba’s already made quite a name for himself in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, having played Heimdall in THOR and THOR: THE DARK WORLD, not to mention appearing in 20th Century Fox’s GHOST RIDER: SPIRIT OF VENGEANCE. The actor has also had large roles in the likes of PROMETHEUS and PACIFIC RIM.
