With it confirmed a few weeks ago that Hugh Jackman and director James Mangold were in talks to return for another Wolverine solo film, Jackman has been speaking to EW about the current status of the project.

The Aussie actor said, “I don’t want to dive into another one until we have a compelling reason to do another one. I love the character, he’s kind of like a best friend to me, and I don’t ever want to take him or the fans for granted. I think we’ve got a great opportunity to make something really cool, but it has to be great. That’s what we’re all working toward. I was on the phone with Jim Mangold last night. There are some really cool ideas that I’m dying to tell you, but that would be giving away a secret that is not even formed yet.”

THE WOLVERINE is the second-highest grossing film of the X-MEN films to date, coming in behind X-MEN: THE LAST STAND. Mangold’s film grossed $413.6 million at the worldwide box office, which put it just behind THE LAST STAND’s $459.4 million.

Including the upcoming X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, this third Logan solo film would mark Jackman’s eighth outing as Wolverine.
