Despite Ron Perlman recently talking up the prospect of HELLBOY 3 finally happening, it now seems that the film is a no-go. Director Guillermo del Toro has been speaking to Collider to clarify the situation.

Del Toro said, “It’s very unlikely it’ll happen because you need things to converge so strongly. Larry Gordon, Universal, the rights, Ron Perlman’s and my availability, Mike Mignola’s blessing…”

The director the added, “We have pieces of that, but we don’t have all of that. You need so many things to confluence and then you need about $150 million.”

Del Toro was then asked about the chances of finishing his Hellboy story in comic book form. Again, that’s not looking likely, with del Toro saying, “I talked to Mike about making it a comic, and Mike said very clearly, ‘Hellboy the movie is yours, Hellboy the comics is mine; I don’t wanna confuse them.’ He has been very clear about not bringing any mythology we did in the movies into the comics. Mike is very careful about that.”

So, just as quickly as a third outing for Big Red seemed on the cards, it now appears that HELLBOY 3 is back to being a non-event.
