The on-off saga of HELLBOY 3 looks to have taken yet another turn over the last few days. Despite director Guillermo del Toro and star Ron Perlman both keen on a third film in the series, the last few months have seen the film confined to the ‘not ever happening’ pile. Timing and financing issues have been the reasoning for the film apparently being a no-go. Well, that may, just ever so slightly, have changed. Whilst promoting PACIFIC RIM, del Toro and Perlman have both been speaking to ShockTillYouDrop about a possible third HELLBOY, revealing that they’ve actually had chats with Lionsgate head honcho Thomas Tull over the weekend.

Del Toro said, I hate giving pieces about it, but last night, we were at dinner and Ron said, ‘I would be very happy to do Hellboy again, when are we doing HELLBOY 3?’ Thomas said, ‘I would love to see HELLBOY 3.’ He didn’t say he would love to do it, he just said he’d like to see it, but today, I’ll ask him.”

Perlman was also later quizzed on the meeting, to which he said, “Not just anybody can make this movie. I loved working for Legendary and I know for Guillermo working on PACIFIC RIM was one of his greatest experiences. The reason I loved working for them is because Guillermo was so happy. I came in six months into the shoot and he seemed as fresh as a daisy, simply because he was working for someone who appreciated and supported this outlandish vision of what he wanted to put on the screen. My immediate, silent wish was wouldn’t it be great if these guys came in and helped resolve the HELLBOY series.”

So, whilst nothing has been confirmed in the slightest, it appears that there may still be some interest from Lionsgate in HELLBOY 3. From previous comments, del Toro apparently always saw the series as a trilogy. Here’s hoping the director gets the chance to wrap up his story.
