Not to be confused with David Fincher’s long in development 20,000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA revamp, this version of the classic tale, THE RETURN OF CAPTAIN NEMO, is an independent UK production with a modest (by today’s standards at least) $10m budget.

Hayley Atwell, last seen as Peggy Carter in this year’s CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER, is the latest to be cast, joining David Morrissey (BASIC INSTINCT 2, DOCTOR WHO) and Hugh Bonneville (DOWNTOWN ABBEY), who will portray the titular sailor.

The project will feature a more steampunk aesthetic, which will be rendered using CGI and shot entirely on greenscreen.

Director Pearry Teo (THE GENE GENERATION) and Producer Amy Krell will begin principal photography early next 2012, while Fincher and co. continue to navigate the Nautilus out of Development Hell.
