The character of Harley Quinn was created in the early-‘90s for the fantastic BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES show. Since then, the Joker’s main-squeeze has become quite the fan favourite. It seems that you can’t go to any kind of comic event without seeing a bazillion people, or all shapes, sizes and sex, dressed in Harley Quinn outfits. The character proved to be such a hit, long-time Bat-fan Kevin Smith even named his daughter after the artist formerly known as Dr. Harleen Quinzel. With Bat-fans previously championing the sadly deceased Brittany Murphy for the character on the big screen, BATTLESTAR GALACTICA’s Katee Sackhoff has thrown her name into the ring in case the role ever comes up.

Speaking to Esquire, Sackhoff said, “I love Harley Quinn. I do. I just love it. It’s not been done before. It’s this fantastic mix. I mean, it’s like the female Joker. Who wouldn’t want to do that? Quite potentially – it’s not around so I wouldn’t feel the weight of it – I’d probably sell my first born at this point to do that.”

After Heath Ledger’s sad passing, it was often discussed how we may never see Mr J on the big screen again. However, with Batman now confirmed to be appearing in the MAN OF STEEL sequel that opens up new possibilities. With the new Caped Crusader presumed to have no ties to Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight that means that all bets are off. The new version of Batman will obviously get his own film again somewhere down the line. Any new Batman will need new villains, and as Bat-foes go, they don’t get much bigger than the Clown Prince of Crime.

Whilst it won’t be any time soon, it’s not totally out of the realm of possibility to see any potential new Joker accompanied by Harley Queen. First up, though, is the MAN OF STEEL sequel. Whether it’s titled BATMAN VS SUPERMAN or SUPERMAN VS BATMAN, the film is set to be released during summer 2015.
