An animated remake of George Romero’s seminal 1985 zombie movie DAY OF THE DEAD produced by Guillermo Del Toro?! Hells yes!!!

Oh, wait… No, sorry. Scratch that. This is actually a ‘Romeo and Juliet’ style story taking place during the annual Mexican ‘Day of the Dead’ festival reports Variety. Cheers for stamping on our dreams, Variety.

Ok, so not as tantilising a prospect as first thought, but interesting nonetheless. Del Toro has penned the script (when did he have the time to do that?!) with the project’s director Jorge R. Gutierrez, co-creator of an animated show I’m completely unfamiliar with called EL TIGRE: THE ADVENTURES OF MANNY RIVERA. Anyone?

Producing are Reel FX, the animation studio behind the new CGI Looney Tunes shorts you might have seen playing before recent big-screen Warner Bros fare (they’re just not the same are they).

The film will mark the Award Winning genre filmmaker’s third foray into the world of animation, following 2011’s KUNG FU PANDA 2 and PUSS IN BOOTS. Yes. Really.

But we’re still gutted we’re not going to get our fix of animated Bub.

We’ll have more on this as it develops…
